We prepared this text as our school's own material for the October issue of Prestiż Szczecin magazine (no. 175). Its subject is an uncomfortable one in ballet, which is why it matters: food, looks and the pressure that teenage dancers now also feel through social media.
In it Olga Kuźmina-Pietkiewicz speaks openly about her own story - anorexia in her ballet-school years, remarks about looks that wound for years, and a teacher from Finland she met at the competition in Varna, whose school forbade its pupils to starve themselves. From those experiences comes the rule that holds at our school: the girls we prepare for competitions do not starve and make no radical changes to what they eat.
There is no such thing as a "dancer's diet" - there is proper nutrition: vegetables, fruit, nuts, dried fruit, porridge and snacks with real value instead of empty carbohydrates. A dancer in a period of intensive rehearsals does not have to worry about weight, but does have to look after their health. In the magazine's photo: Izabella Piątkowska, a pupil of our school.
